Michelle Leete, President of the NAACP passed away on January 3rd, 2024. Ricardy Anderson introduced a resolution on Thursday, January 25th which passed overwhelmingly by the School board. The resolution honors and celebrates the life of Michelle.
PROCLAMATION HONORING MICHELLE LEETE
WHEREAS, Michelle Leete dedicated her life to the pursuit of a more just and equitable society, tirelessly working to dismantle barriers and championing the rights of all individuals, regardless of race, gender, or socio-economic status; and
WHEREAS, Michelle has been a beacon of light, a passionate champion, and an unwavering advocate for civil rights, justice, equality and community empowerment, an active member of the Fairfax County National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), serving on its Executive Committee since 2013, and elected to serve as President for the 2023-2024 term; and
WHEREAS, Michelle devoted considerable time and effort to public education, promoting family engagement, working to ensure every child’s voice is heard as she served as PTA President at Weyanoke Elementary School, Holmes Middle School, and Edison High School and as the Vice President of Training of the Virginia PTA and the Fairfax County Council of PTAs; and
WHEREAS, Michelle was a remarkable leader with a deep commitment to improving her community. She served as a Fairfax County NAACP Delegate to the Virginia State Conference NAACP Convention and National NAACP Convention multiple times; she stood as a guiding force, inspiring those around her with compassion, empathy, and a profound understanding of the systemic issues that impede progress towards a just and equal society; and
WHEREAS, Michelle’s legacy will forever live on in the hearts and minds of those she touched, leaving an indelible mark on our community;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Fairfax County School Board mourns the loss of a true champion, celebrates the extraordinary life of Michelle Leete and commits to carrying forward her vision of a world where civil rights, justice, and equality are not mere aspirations but lived realities for all.
